Sunday in Kostelec Nad Cernymi Lesy

Bottled water

Bottled waterThe sun was finally shining this morning! For the first time, I had a good night sleep of maybe 8.5 hours which is still not enough for me, still jet lagged. My eyes were so red! There are no facecloth in my room here so guess what I am using…a sock! A woman’s gotta do what a woman’s gotta do! So I took my little blue sock and soaked it in cold water and put it on my red tired eyes and tried to wake up. I made myself a warm cereal beverage, got dressed and went to Zeleny Dum for my breakfast.
Ilona was there and I asked her if she spoke English and she called Liba who said she wasn’t working today but she would come to help me tell the cook Richard what I could have. We decided on scrambled eggs and roasted onions with two croissants. Richard came out of the kitchen with the pan to make sure it was ok and Cook at Zeleny Dumcame to show me the onions! I thought that was so sweet! Ilona served me fresh mint tea and brought some honey for my second croissant. It was so good! I made sure to give my complement to the cook as well for the previous evening’s chicken and rice which made him very happy.
Back in the  room, I realized my adapter was still in the restaurant’s plug so I had to put my coat back on and walked out to go take it back. Of of the employee, maybe the manager, looked at me and put his hand on his head…doh! Yes indeed! I thought I might as well go to the pharmacy while I’m out.
Pet store in Kostelec nad Cernymi LesyOnce in the little building that also houses the bank, a man is sitting in a chair in front of the closed pharmacy, telling me it’s Sunday and that the pharmacy is closed in Czech. When he sees I don’t understand him he is talking louder and says more words that I don’t understand any more than I did before! So I am thinking maybe he has something I might need in his little news stand for the purpose of my trip to the pharmacy: something to calm down the travel diarrhea my mother warned me about when I told her I had been drinking tap water since I arrived in Czech Republic. So how else than miming to explain what I need! So I start miming something coming fast of my bum…he says “toilet paper”? I “Ne” and I give a sign meaning I give up… I thought this was impossible anyway… But Boy did we laugh when I told mama D while video chatting!
I laughed all the way back to my room and tried to have a little nap after The square in Kostelec n. c. l. chatting a bit with Dami back home. I didn’t sleep but it felt good to lay down and close my eyes. I love my room, it’s quiet, clean and very well decorated but it’s right above the owner’s garage and it smells like gas. I am glad I am not staying longer because I am not sure this is very healthy to breathe and actually it probably is carcinogenic. I am not sure it would be worth mentioning to the owners because there is probably not much they can do and they must know already.
I had some slices of the apple I brought with me from the hotel 16 in Prague and went out for a walk. The sun was out but the air was still very cold. I walked up to the health store (Zdrava Vyziva) Blanka told me about Friday and came back. I was feeling better but not too adventurous and walked back to the center. The smells, the sounds and the sights made it for a very interesting walk. I was fascinated by the door handles that all looked different. I thought about taking some pictures but I decided not to: I have plenty of time to take some pictures in Prague anyway.
Kutnohorska UliceI was mesmerized by the bird’s songs new to my ears and tried to figure out what they were, some looked like chickadees and some up on the clock of the square looked like doves. Also, the smoke filling the main street from the coal burning in one building’s chimney made interesting patterns. As I stop to take a picture, I hear someone knocking on a window across the street and as I turn my head to see, it’s Richard, the cook from the restaurant waving at me. I wave back and I decide to go in and thank him again for taking good care of me and ask him if I can post his picture on my website! I am glad he didn’t mind. I wonder if Liba will remember the address…
My supper today consisted of the leftover rice with a can of sardines with a Kiri cream cheese square and a slice of red pepper. For my late night snack I had a cup of oatmeal with half a banana and some maple syrup brought from home. So that’s about what happened today and I am ready for another good night of sleep!
