The Montreal Bonaventure Hotel is the perfect choice when traveling by train. It’s right across the street from the station and only a short walk. It is accessible by stepping outside to cross the street or it is also possible to stay indoors but it’s a longer walk. I love the Bonaventure Hotel and their service has always been outstanding. What sets them apart from other hotels in Montreal besides their location is the fact they are on the upper floors of the building with a river flowing all around the rooftop gardens. The evergreens, plants and flowers are so beautiful, and the resident ducks, ducklings and koi fish outside what used to be the breakfast lounge, complete the lovely scene. The outdoor heated swimming pool and gardens can be seen on each sides of the hallway as you walk to the main lobby from the elevators. There are two floors of rooms with either city or garden views.
Mama D joined me for a two night stay after my train trip from Moncton, NB, before hopping on the train to Toronto to take The Canadian train to Vancouver. We stayed in a newly refurbished room facing the gardens. The room had two double beds, plenty of outlets to recharge phones and batteries, and a small round table with two chairs. I did find the color palette a bit on the dark side but the neutral tones of the room bring out the green of the garden view and the flora pictures above the beds tie the theme together.
We were able to check-in early and the dinner at the Hotel restaurant was excellent and so was the service as usual. We didn’t spend much time in the room and we didn’t have time to use the pool facilities. The shower in the bathroom has no bathtub and has a rain shower with a handheld combination. The beds were comfortable as usual with the feather pillows by “Plume Canada”.
We had a great stay and would definitely recommend anyone traveling by train to stop here. It might not be as fancy as the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth but it has everything you need and staff are there to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
