Hamakua Ditch Structure in Kohala Reserve

Hamakua Ditch Structure in Kohala Reserve : The hike from Waimea up to the back edge of the Waipio Valley sounded like a good day hike for us so we followed the road for about 45 minutes along the Hamakua Ditch system that was built back in the 1900's and we came to this cement and steel pipe structure standing alone at the edge of a dark bamboo growth. If you have ever played the video game series Myst it reminded us of one of the thumping vibrating structures that are often hidden in dark shadows! This was a water pipeline and ditch system that winds through the mountains and we often spotted trenches, stone structures and odd bridges as we hiked towards the valley in the clouds. DAMI
